To Our Colleagues:

Pediatrics is moving from the traditional focus on babies physical health to an emphasis on the parent child relationship— relational health. Our relationship with parents, including understanding their feelings and life circumstances, is the key to guiding them in methods to promote the health and development of their baby.

Small Moments Big Impact (SMBI) was designed to help stimulate these special and important conversations as the path to develop the best relationship possible with parents.

And parents have spoken. In a recent study of SMBI, 85% of mothers rated the content of SMBI high or very high. After use, they also reported lower stress, more growth mindset and great understanding of their  baby’s feelings compared  to a matched control group. We encourage you to explore the videos on the site and experience the impact of this relational health tool in your clinical practice.

How It Works

  • Discover Our Content

Watch a short intro video to discover the purpose behind SMBI, how to use it, and why it will help you better engage your patients and their families. Check out the Watch & Talk videos in each appointment and feel free to peruse all other videos for parents.

  • Use In Visits

Identify one of the Watch & Talk sections of a relevant appointment and play it for a family at the beginning of the appointment as you log into your EMR. Use the question prompts to start a conversation that will help you get to know the family in a more personal way.

  • Promote Home Use

Urge parents to watch and discuss the other videos on the website at home with their friends and loved ones.
